      In 1871 Christopher Kress purchased the North American Hotel in Preston, Ontario. The hotel, located on the corner of King and Fountain Streets, was enlarged in 1900 and renamed the Kress Hotel. James Esson was a photographer in Preston between 1870-1920. His studio was located at 113 Queen Street.

      According to the 1956 Waterloo Historical Society annual volume, the Galt, Preston & Hespeler Railway was created on 25 January 1895.

      Idylwild Park was located on the Speed River between Hespeler and Preston, Ontario and was accessible by the Galt, Preston and Hespeler Electric Railway. The park closed in 1916.

      The tower, designed by the architect William Langdon, was built between 1925-1926. It stands as a memorial to the Mennonite-German pioneers that first migrated to the area. It is located at 300 Lookout Lane, Kitchener, Ontario.

      According to the 1956 Waterloo Historical annual volume, electric railway services began in Preston on 26 July 1894. Edges are worn and there is soiling on the reverse side.

      According to the 1956 Waterloo Historical Society annual volume, Preston and Berlin Street Railway passenger service began on 6 October 1904.

      It has been suggested that this might be the Berlin & Bridgeport Street Railway line, with the sugar refinery (located at Maple and Arnold Streets) in the background and overhead trolley lines along the railway line.

      The location of this scene has been idenfitied as being near the Hanlan Hotel at the west end of the Toronto Islands, a building that was destroyed by fire in 1909.
