      John N. Meathrell was Oxford County's first engineer, this bridge was built to commemorate him. Meathrell oversaw the development of the county road system. The bridge was designed by engineers Ure and Smith and built by Arnott Construction. He was an engineer for the County from 1928 to 1968.

      In January of 1893, the Matheson House was destroyed by a pre-dawn fire. Matheson would later rebuild, but in 1907 when he lost the business it became known as the Arlington Hotel. The hotel was destroyed by a fire in 1967.
