      Courtesy Canada Steamship Lines' Marine Hist. Coll. H.M.S. CHEROKEE, 1842 This wood-built, paddle-driven, six-gun steam sloop-of-war (schooner rigged) was built at Kingston Dockyard and was the first regular naval vessel to use steam power on the Great Lakes.
