      This is a black and white photo of the original Milltown dam for the grist mill. The photo shows several log constructions, some built in the river and others raised above the mill race way.

      Whitby Collegiate Institute was built in 1873 and was located on the south side of Colborne Street between King and Centre Streets. The school was demolished in 1975-1976.

      This is a black and white photo showing a wooden swing bridge across the Thessalon River. This bridge was built to accommodate pedestrian traffic. The photo shows a wooden suspension style bridge near the home of Louis Chalut. The bridge was built in 1910.

      Heydenshore Park was a summer resort established around 1900 east of Whitby Harbour. A number of cottages were built there starting in 1900 and many were demolished in 1965 when the private park was sold to the Whitby Public Utilities Commission.       David Mathison owned a bakery in Whitby. He was born in Whitby about 1865 and died in Toronto on 8 August 1924. The location of this photograph is unknown.

      The huge volume of water rushing from Niagara Falls is crushed into the narrow Great Gorge, creating the Whirlpool Rapids that stretch for 1.6 km (1 mi). This is the elbow, where the river makes a sharp right-angled turn.
