 Unknown, Whitby Gazette and Chronicle (1912), 17 December 1914     William P. Stone (1893-1914)was the night telegraph operator at Whitby Junction Station. He was killed by a gunshot wound in the early hours of 11 December 1914. No one was convicted of his murder.

 Graydon M. Goodfellow, Whitby Gazette and Chronicle (1912), 9 March 1938     Fred T. Rowe (1873-1959) was mayor of Whitby from 1938-1944. On 9 March 1938 he placed the first dial telephone call in Whitby to Albert W. Jackson, the town Reeve. The telephone exchange building was constructed between 1937-1938 on the west side of Brock Street between Colbourne and Dunlop Streets.

 Unknown, Whitby Gazette and Chronicle (1912), 1858     The Grand Trunk Hotel was located on the south side of the Grand Trunk Railway (Canadian National Railway), east of the Victoria Street Crossing. It was built about 1856 and was destroyed by fire on 3 August 1896. The proprietor in 1858 was Thomas Lloyd.
