      This note accompanies the photo in the presentation: "What stands out most in my memory was the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. Classes were cancelled for two weeks, I went home to Little Britain, and drove my father on his rounds, almost around the clock, before I too was stricken …

      “My University class was large, approximately 250. It was several days before we really got organized.” George C.R. Hall’s words.

      “It did not take the University of Toronto C.O.T.C. (Cadet Officer Training Corp) long to catch up though, and although many of our class were veterans of WWI, and still in uniform, we had to wear a military uniform to school on Tuesday and Friday and drill on the back …

      “This did us no harm, except we did resent being recognized as soldiers, for at least two days a week, especially when many had years of front line service and bore scars of war.“ George C.R. Hall’s words.

      Initiation took place around the Medical Building and out into Queens Park. “My forehead and ear were gashed and the smell of rotting eggs lingered for months around the area.” George C.R. Hall’s words.

      George C.R. Hall entered first year medicine at University of Toronto in 1918. This class was unique in that it was a mixture of WWI veterans and high school graduates. It also had the largest enrolment on record.
