      The construction camp of Cunningham & Nelson in the area somewhere between Rat Portage and the Manitoba border. Quite often camps were named after the construction company or foreman of the work gangs.

      An area of rock cut with the work gang looking over the completed section of track. Work along the area between Rat Portage and Dryden, as illustrated in this photo, was done manually without the aid of machinery to haul the rocks into position for the laying of track.

      This image shows a construction gang with horse and boom used to remove rocks that had been cleared by dynamite on a contract for the Trans Continental Railway (early 1900s). Horses and make-shift booms indicate the manual effort required to make this set of tracks a reality for Northwestern Ontario.
