      This photo was taken above the Abitibi dams. Once the logs were released they floated down the Sturgeon River where they were boomed up in Lake Nipissing. Tugs towed the logs to the J.B.Smith mill in Calendar.

      From late April into May 1979, the Sturgeon River rampage affected many communities including: Caldwell, Crystal Falls, Field, Sturgeon Falls, Springer Township and the Nipissing First Nation territory.

      Scierie Mageau Lumber tel que reconstruite en 1929, redevenu Field Lumber en 1934 et vendu en 1941./ This photograph depicts Mageau Lumber in 1929. In 1934 it returned to its original name, Field Lumber, and was sold in 1934. Mageau Lumber suffered fires in 1922 and 1929.

      Ottawa lumber baron J.R. Booth built this dam on Pike River which connects directly to the Sturgeon River. It was at this intersection that the Mageau and Field Lumber companies located their operations.
