      These are handmade wooden snowshoes that were used for winter hunting. These snowshoes are very unusual in both style and construction with their basically rectangular shape versus the more traditional styles. Leather bindings held the shoe onto a boot of some type.

      This newspaper article from the Sudbury Star shows photos of the very large birthday celebration held in honor of J.J. McFadden on his 80th birthday. Mr. McFadden was the president of J.J. McFadden Lumber that employed many people on the North Shore over many years.

      Article four in this series discusses the 1968 announcement by Domtar of the closure of the local mill. The last whistle blew at 5 pm on June 19, 1969 and saw 300 people join the 300-400 who had already been laid off.

      The Globe and Mail ran a large article about the McFadden mill that was the worlds larges white pine sawmill in the 1950`s. During its peak operation over 12 miles of concrete `streets` were laid for access to the lumber stacks. The mill itself was built by the Carpenter Hixon …

      In March of 1981 the Blind River council was attempting to establish a committee to monitor the Eldorado Plant operations. Some of the issues to be resolved were funding, access to information and the site, salaries or lack thereof for committee members and other things.

      This short listing of facts about the Eldorado plant came from an interview with the Vice President in charge of refining, where he talked about emissions from the plant, their financing and the distortions anti nuclear groups have put into the public view.
