Results

      Thomas and Ellen Bottomley emigrated from England and settled in Machar Township in 1885. Their homestead was located on Concession 5, Lot 9 on Eagle Lake Road.

      The crops and livestock on the farm included: potatoes, lettuce and cattle. The farm and the land was later donated to the Seventh Day Adventist Mission.

      Alexander Bow was born April 11, 1878 in Mara Township Ontario. He would later marry Ellen McKee. They would go on to parent nine children.

      The far right side of the farmhouse is original. The rest was added at a later time.

      Robert M. Carter was the owner of the home at the time. He opened the first General Store in South River in 1885. He was also clerk for Machar and sold insurance. The Carters came to South Rivers from Brussels, Ontario.

      The Cole homestead was located two miles west of South River. The home was built in 1901.

      The children in the picture are: George Leighton, Dorothy Wilson, Edna L?, Margaret L?, Harvey Wilson, Johnny Sabloski, Jack Leighton, Stanley Wilson and Katie Sabolski.

      Hamilton Lake Public School first opened in January 1924.
