      In the summer of 1956, the western breakwater made of stone and log cribs was removed and replaced with a new breakwater constructed of stone and steel. The dock where the pier joined the breakwater was also reconstructed at this time. The remainder of the pier was rebuilt in 1958.

      In 1959 a signal tower was built near the east pier at Whitby Harbour.

      The Waterworks Pumphouse was built in 1903/4 on the lakeshore between Whitby Harbour and Heydenshore Park. An additional pumphouse was built to the east of this building in 1959.
