      Wilfrid Laurier (1841-1919) was Canada's eighth Prime Minister, holding office 1896-1911. Laurier was born in St. Lin, Quebec. He received a law degree from McGill University in 1864, and practiced law in Montreal and Arthabaskville from 1864-1896. Wilfrid Laurier was Liberal party leader from 1887 until his death in 1919.

      The history of Elgin County School Sections and Townships is a collection of prize winning essays in a contest sponsored by the Southern Counties Journal and the Elgin Historical and Scientific Institute in 1896. The essayists were able to interview some of the early settlers.

      Bayside was built in 1855 and demolished in 1978. The Bayside property was owned from 1838 to 1888 by William Gordon. From 1888 until 1912 the property was owned by John Smith. In 1912, the property was purchased by the provincial government for the Ontario Hospital.
